Unhappy Rubbing Away Fur..

Hey guys.. I'm a little worried about Perle as she seems to be either losing her fur or chewing it off her back right leg, like you can see in the picture. Also, it almost seems like she is limping on it but isn't in any pain because I can touch it. She's finding it harder to do things like climb into her wheel, but that could be because she is around 2. Not sure if it is anything but just wanted to know if any of you guys have had the same?

Hi. Two things strike me. If she`s `limping` or you think she may have a strain or something else going on, a vet would/should be able to tell you if he leg is okay. Second, if you look at the way the fur has been rubbed off, it`s exactly where the back leg would reach to as if lifting her leg to scratch that area, so if she`s been scratching at this area a lot, the leg may be strained as a direct result, or her muscle may be weak due to her doing this, so perhaps that where the leg weakness is coming from.

She looks healthy otherwise so I would look closer at the area she has been scratching at and determine if she needs a mite treatment, but personally, hamsters and mice will scratch around the face, head and shoulder areas if they have suspected mites, so I wouldn`t rush to do any spot on treatments. She may just have rubbed the fur off because she scratches that area a lot and nothing more. x

racinghamster: Thank you. I've been looking for a sand bath for her so I think that should help..
