Hamster Acting and Looking Weird!!!
My syrian hamster, Sakura (2-3 months old), has suddenly got a hunch in her back, and she smells weird in her underneath area. There is a milky/cloudy liquid on her bum/girly areas. I don't know what it is or what to do. I don't have a small animal vet, I checked today and the closest one is 3 hours away and that is way too far and I don't want her to be stressed out more than she might be. I called my dogs vet and asked if they were small animal certified and they said they can only put them to sleep. Please help, I can try to get pictures if needed. Just please, I don't know if she is in heat or what...

Re: Hamster Acting and Looking Weird!!!
That definitely sounds like she is in heat. She can freeze up when you touch her and tail goes up. Everything seems normal to me. Females can have a strong odor related to the fluid coming from them. Not pleasant, but perfectly natural. You'll want to clean her wheel and ball if you use one. Mine tends to smear the fluid onto stuff.

Re: Hamster Acting and Looking Weird!!!
Okay thank you. And I have offered her every kind of wheel/saucer and she won't run on them to save her life. I had them all in her cage at once and I have had her for a little over a month. I took out all of them except one but she hasn't touched it once. And believe me I would know if she did or not.

What size/brands are you offering her? She'll catch on. Just make sure she always has one in there for when she's ready.

Re: Hamster Acting and Looking Weird!!!
6.5 Flying Saucer
8 Comfort Wheel
11 Wodent Wheel
She is a VERY small syrian, just a little bigger than a normal sized djungarian/winter white...

Re: Hamster Acting and Looking Weird!!!
I would still keep the Wodent wheel as the main one. It's pretty smooth and quiet, right? I have a comfort wheel but it's clunky. Surely she'll start using it when she's more settled in.

She is in heat, best time to get a good picture of her sat still with a small hat on etc.

Re: Hamster Acting and Looking Weird!!!
Lol Puddle! I do find it easy to pick up my girl out of the playpen when she would otherwise be squirmy.

Re: Hamster Acting and Looking Weird!!!
Yeah I picked her up and she wasn't even mad like normal. She normally squirms around and she just let me hold her and flip her over, I was like WEIRD!!!! Thanks for the help guys. And I do have the wodent wheel in her cage.
