Hamster change in sleeping patterns ?

Hi everyone,

I have recently brought my hamster and had him for about 3 weeks now. First couple of weeks he was getting up about 7pm, very active in his ball every night. Over the past week he has started to get up a lot later, yesterday he didn't even go in his ball, same tonight. When I look in, he is always awake just in his bed. Yesterday after I handled him & put him back he was very active & on his wheel. Though tonight I have handled him and he has gone back to bed.

I'm worried that he is ill? As his behaviour has just changed. He is still eating and drinking fine. Do I need to take him to the vets?

For the first three weeks your hamster is definitely settling in and establishing his pattern. I wouldn't worry about it personally, but if you want to take him to the vet a check-up probably won't hurt him any.

It's fine if he is waking up later! Hamsters don't have entirely perfect schedules and they can get changed time to time! If your hamster thinks they are staying up to late / to little, they will change it.
I wouldn't sweat about it!
