Normal weight for dwarf hamsters?
I've had them both for about 3/4 weeks now, Gimli is our little girl and she's very tiny. We weighed her at 23g and there is also a possibility that she's pregnant but we are not sure yet. She's very energetic but shy when it comes to us.
Gizmo is our little boy, or should I say big boy, he's a little chubster and weighed in at 38g. He's not as energetic as Gimli but still loves his wheel, tho he prefers coming out to see us. He's a lot slower moving than Gimlo too as she's very quick but he's more laid back.
Just wanted to know if this is normal!
Thanks a lot in advance (:

Re: Normal weight for dwarf hamsters?
It varies wildly as far as I can tell. The two I have right now weigh right around 45 grams and are still growing. I have had ones that were as big as 65-70 grams though, and many around 50 grams. The smallest full grown one I had was 33 grams, but that was a very very skinny 33 grams since she had some kidney issues.
23 grams sounds very tiny to me (about the size of my robos), but it could be normal for her. I've found it best to just compare my dwarf hamsters to their own weight over time rather than try to compare them to others though. How old are they?

The average weight is about 40-60g. Although your hams are only young so I wouldn't expect them to be that weight yet! Thatvsounds about right for a ham of their age

It seems like Gizmo is growing nicely then!
Yeah she is very tiny she doesn't seem to have grown since we've had her but she does eat, we're not sure on the age we got them on 1st this month and it was the first day they where available to buy in shop so I'm assuming they're still quite young.

Like humans, some hams are built like a mouse and others like guinea pigs. For example, my Zelda is built like a bus(um, no offense Zelds) but her daughter, Daisy, is built like a ballerina, weighing in at only 29 grams. Plus, she's the runt, so she's always been small. But she's not sickly or anything, just small, which may be the case for your little girl. I wouldn't worry about it!

Re: Normal weight for dwarf hamsters?
My hybrid weighed in at a huge 78g when he first came home with me! He now hovers between 69 and 72 depending on his need to pee/pouch situation but considering he's almost 18months old, I'm happy with this.
He has a healthy diet and exercise, he was just born chunky

Well it's true! Hopefully my suspicions about Zelda getting up in the night to look on HC aren't though, or I'll be in trouble with the Queen!
Lol, glad you liked it.

Re: Normal weight for dwarf hamsters?
Thanks everyone for the help! I guess it just varies as she does eat and is very active, the same as Gizmo.
And as someone stated they are still young! Thanks for all the information and advice everyone (: it's helped me abit as I was worried about her weight, I'll keep a track on it and she goes on!
And I too love the bus and ballerina comparison :L it explains perfectly my two!
Thanks a lot (:

Re: Normal weight for dwarf hamsters?
My two boys are 51g and 53g. They're about 6mo though, so older than your wee ones. I imagine if we had weighed them when we first got them they would have been a lot less! They've both grown a TON!
