Re: Hamster hair loss and open skin sores - PLEASE HELP
I also am pretty certain this was Cushing's. Regardless, this was not a time to even say such a thing to you. Every one of us has to make a decision when it comes to pts or not. There are no hard and fast rules where you can, with accuracy, say...now is the time. All any of us can do is our best. And folks here will support whatever a hammy owner's choice is. What you describe as happening to Figero this morning is exactly what we mean when we talk about quality of life, or a hammy really going downhill. You saw that and you acted on it. There is nothing for you to feel bad about. This whole situation has been very hard for you and I am so sorry your Lovely Figero had to endure all of this. His photos are just lovely. The hurt and the sadness will pass. What will be left are the memories of a beautiful little companion who brightened your life {hugs} to you. Play well at the Bridge little man. You fought the good fight, but it was time to move on.

Re: Hamster hair loss and open skin sores - PLEASE HELP
Thank you so much Dr, as mentioned before you've all been such a great help to me. I will miss Figaro so much. I'm not happy about it, but there's already a new hamster in the house (my sister thought the only way to solve her heartache was to get another pet). It feels too soon, but I will love him just as much as Figaro, and I hope that Figaro doesn't mind another little furball being in his home. He's a little white syrian called Snowy. I'll be sure to keep you all updated on his antics.

Re: Hamster hair loss and open skin sores - PLEASE HELP
What a battle he fought and you both took this on with gusto and no matter what the vet you saw suggested, It`s all matter of fact now. Hamsters can suffer from various illnesses that sometimes, even vets can`t get to the bottom of even after months of seeing them. So rest assured by the stages you we dealing with, it would probably have been too little too late anyway and I sometimes feel that going to a vet all the time if there are no factual answers being given, then it`s better to say enough and do what you can at home for the hamster.
Your new little one will remove some of the pain you feel right now losing Figaro, but you certainly won`t forget him. x

Thanks Racinghamster, it's really nice knowing you all think I did the right thing. I've never had to put an animal to sleep before, so it was very hard. You are all lovely people and I wish you and your little ones all the best x

I'm so sorry, he was definitely a little fighter. He'll be playing at the bridge now. There's nothing worse than having to put a little one to sleep, but you made sure he didn't suffer. Sending lots of hugs xx

Wow that's an amazing price, here in California, it's $60 not even including medicine, and some places its $113. It's pretty frustrating.

That's so true! they are extortionists, I'm having a hard time finding a decent price and vet that I trust.
