Re: Hamster hair loss and open skin sores - PLEASE HELP
I'm just off to university now, but when I get back I will try and get some pictures of him. It's more the jaw I'm amazed about.

I'm an eternal optimist so I just hope for a miracle for him against this evil disease.

Re: Hamster hair loss and open skin sores - PLEASE HELP
I seem to have been wrong about his mouth; it is hanging open today, though he does close it every now and again even when he isn't eating. I haven't been able to take any pictures today because my phone has been playing up, but I will try again tomorrow. Nothing has changed, other than he's had a few more bumps pop up on his back. I really appreciate all your lovely thoughts and comments - I am trying to remain optimistic also. It is a horrible disease and I hope one day a successful cure is discovered for hamsters. I hope the pear he had a big munch on today made him feel slightly happier.

please take him to the vets, i know its tough to think they might be coming to the end of his life, but they deserve us to do that for them, he has been loved and has had a good life, all the suggestions may make things worse, please see your vet.

Missy, I spoke to my vets about him and they said there's nothing they can do for him, but they urged me to take him in to them if I ever think he needs to be PTS. At the moment I'm judging that he still has a good quality of life, purely because of the way he's acting. I'm not willing to give up on him yet.

I'd not have him pts yet, he might last a couple of more weeks without getting any worse. I'm sure his nibble of pear made him happier too.

Re: Hamster hair loss and open skin sores - PLEASE HELP
He's eating an awful lot, though I don't think he's losing or gaining weight. He likes to play a game where I hide bits of food and he hunts them out and stuffs them in his cheeks I've noticed sometimes when he wakes up, if he was laying on his side he finds it difficult to get up and wiggle about on his side a bit. I called the company who I ordered the grape seed extract from and apparently it usually takes 28 days to be delivered! They said it should be here in 5-10 days, though I fear that is far too long to wait

Re: Hamster hair loss and open skin sores - PLEASE HELP
Just a quick update: He is still acting the same, except he struggles a bit more to get up when he wakes up I received the grape seed tablets and have tried crushing them up and putting them in his water bottle, but he didn't touch it. Also tried squishing it into pear pulp but turns out he doesn't like pear! I'm now on the hunt for some mushy food stuff that he will like...

The only suggestion i can help with is baby food.
The creamed porridge goes down really well.
