Default Inflamed Tail?

The other day I noticed Domino had a very red and inflamed tail, right at the tip. As far as I know he hasn't had an accident of any kind, nor have I seen him chewing or licking it excessively. Today I bathed it with salt water and treated him for mites (in case this is the cause). Has anyone seen this in their hammies before? If so can anyone suggest what might be causing it? I'm

I've seen this happen on occasion. I think they catch the tail somehow and if it gets hurt sometimes nibble at it making it worse. If it looks crusty or starts to ooze it may have an infection so you need to watch it closely and see a vet if you thing it may be infected.
Hope it heals up soon though x

Thanks for the advice DexterChloe and souffle! I have to conclude that it was a friction type burn from his wheel, which has now been replaced with a larger, go faster model, and the tail is clearing up nicely
