what you could do is get cardboard and weave it in and out the cage so there is knowhere for him/her to climb

What an ordeal for you both.
I would not give her any way of reaching the roof bars as you don't want this to happen again. Don't give toys she can climb on to reach up there and if there is a part she can get to then put a magazine over it with books of top so she cannot get a grip on the bars.
