Default Greasy Hamster

Erm... sorry for the odd title but its exactly what it says on the tin

I adopted a little Robrobvski hammie a week or so ago from P@H. It said - " nobody wants me because I am quite aggressive"
Well, she's not, she's a beautiful little Ewok but....

When I first got her I thought the back of her neck seemed dark and greasy, and since then it seems to have spread down her body. Her pretty tan fur is going a kind of dark wet looking brown and its travelling down from her neck area. I can't see her scratching and Im loathe to bath her because of stress and the fact shes so tiny and fast - although I have some mite shampoo and I will if it will help.

What about a sand bath? Would that help? Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

Hiya,

some Roborovskis get like this at certain times - sometimes it can be when they are a little stressed, or when they have been spending time in a small cage (maybe at the petshop?).

Anyway, a sand bath will make a lot of difference, as will some nice fresh food and clean fresh water replaced every day - it is best to clean out their cage. especially the nest area, twice a week too.

She will soon improve her condition.

We find our dwarfs get very greasy looking if they don't have their sand bath. Use the Charlie Chinchilla SAND (not dust) in a shallow bowl like a pottery cat saucer or dish or maybe a hamster potty. She will love rolling around in the sand bath and will likely spruce up very well.
