Default Too much xeno spot on!?

Help! I just saw bailey scratching like mad so I put some xeno 50 spot on on him but I was only meant to put 6 drops on, before I knew it the whole tube had squirted out on him which is meant for an animal of 200-300 grams in weight and he is 88 grams!? Will it hurt him or what can I do, anything? It came out of the tube so fast

I don't know what the expert advice will be on this but if it was my ham, my instinct would be to take a cotton pad and dampen it slightly, then use that to try and wipe off the fluid. That's what I did when he had wet tail and it really helped. Obviously you don't want to bath him as that could harm him, but wiping him down in the affected area is fine.

That's great thank you I will get right on it. I tried to wipe it off with kitchen towel but it's quite greasy so it didn't do much. Can't find any horror stories on the internet so I'm not panicking too much at the moment but I will still try to wipe some more off! I feel so silly for putting too much on!!!

Yes panicking helps nobody! A damp bit of folded up kitchen roll would probably work just as well, so if it's really greasy not sure how best to deal with that. Hopefully others will have some better ideas.

Don't blame yourself, those little tubes really do squirt when you least expect it!

I think trying to wipe off as much excess as possible is the first thing. Remember that the treatment is designed to soak quickly into the skin, so you have to wipe off as much as you can. Unfortunately it's so greasy that it will probably stay in his fur, but as long as he doesn't lick at it then it shouldn't be a problem. :/
I'm not an expert so I can't say much more than that. Hope everything turns out fine x

The advice given is good. Wiping away any excess is all you can do really. Sometimes when a small animal is dosed with Ivermectin, it can make the animal respond by acting a little hyperactive, but this is normal. Your hamster should calm down once the stuff has dried in. Keep a close eye on his behaviour.

Does he have a sand bath? That might help with any remaining grease?

Thanks for all of the replies really appreciated. I quickly wiped off as much excess as possible with a damp kitchen towel and little bailey is fine. didn't notice any signs of hyperactivity or looking to be effected by it in any way. Thank goodness! Xx
