Baytril & side affects
Hi,
As some of you may know my Sirius had a nasty lump that was very sore.
itook him to the vets and was prescribed Baytril for him (still trying to get used to giving it to him - he doesn't like it, got half on his face second day, luckily he waashed his face so took most of it in anyway).
i don't know if it's just that Sirius is feeling better or less sore or if it is something to do with the Baytril, but he seems so hyper and active after his medication.
first night he had it as soon as returning from vets so he had a couple of hours sleep before coming out &he seem so enegetic that night.
the second night he had it and stayed up for playtime (I did have to get him up from bed, but not too early approx 9pm), he again was very active & happily running round and playing (but was grumpy with me to start with).
Last night (day 3) I managed to get the whole dose in his mouth (again had to get him up - he was awake but not fully awake & ready to come out), after giving him the Baytril, he actually sat very still on me and cuddled up, he doesn't do this as he normally like to play (he sort of looked spaced out!) after a short time like this is was hyper again playing, climbing & running around (he dived behind bookcase), then run faster than normal in his ball etc.
Has anybody elses hamster ever acted differently when being on Baytril?
Does anybody know of any side affects?

Re: Baytril & side affects
I've never had that sort of effect however it does sound as if it is making him feel much better so he feels more like doing things now which is great news. Side effects are normally things like upset tummy and lethargy rather than over activity!
How is the sore healing?

Re: Baytril & side affects
Hi Souffle,
His sore seems to be healing ok, his back end is still protruding, but his underside where he will drop his testicles has stayed fully in (so it looks like a loose flat of skin - this is where is scab is), the scab is still there, but seems to have started to flake off on the edges, which seems to indicate that it is healing. he doesn't much like me putting the scrub on, & doesn't care for having the baytril syringed into his mouth either, but he didn't get grumpy with me last night.
thank you for your concern & reply, I will still be keeping an eye on him esp until it has fully healed, and will send an update proberly on my original post about his problem.

Re: Baytril & side affects
I think this behaviour is more of a reaction to the stress and confusion of being fed the horrible medicine, not sure if the ordeal is actually over so still a bit panicky, I think this is a normal reaction don't worry.
