Default Mother Hamster Eye Problem (Warning: Pictures)

My Syrian hamster had a litter of about 9 babies 4 days ago. This is her 2nd litter, all were fine the first time. I have tried to leave her alone with plenty of food and water, and have not checked on her for a few days. Today, I saw that there are only two babies left, but shockingly, she looks a little deformed. It seems that her eyes are bulging out and her long snout has disappeared/changed shape? Please help... does she have a disease, and will it affect the babies?

Her as a baby

Her today

I don't know of any vet that treats hamsters

What part of the world are you in?
I'm really not sure what is going on with your little one but she certainly does not look right. There looks to be some sort of post birth complication and she is retaining fluid causing the tissues to swell up. It could be something to do with blood pressure. I would say she is culling her pups as she cannot cope with caring for them. Can she blink at all? The eyes look very dry and opaque on the surface. It could be glaucoma caused by swelling of the brain pushing the eyes outwards. She does need a vet.
If it is an infection any vet should be able to give antibiotics. In this situation I would have to make mother my priority at the risk of losing the pups. Any more dead pups need removed with a clean spoon before she disposes of the bodies as this will not be helping her system.
Try your best to get her to a vet for examination. He face looks very wet and this may be making the swelling appear worse. It could be a nasal or discharge from the eyes.
I wish you well in finding someone to see her.
If you post your area we may be able to help locate a vet.

She doesn`t look good at all and I agree with soufflé, she really needs to see a vet as soon as possible at the expense of any babies sadly. There are conditions hamsters can suffer from that would cause her face and eyes to go like this and any vet you see will need to be good with small animals and not just cats and dogs.

If I can find any further information for you in regards to what this could be, I will post later on. In the meantime, she needs care. Make sure she can eat and drink and is left alone to rest until you can see a vet. But I would get to a vet today or tomorrow. x

I tried to find some links to what this could be caused by but most were relating to eye issues or other types of swellings. She really is in a bad way poor lass so please let us know if she`s seen a vet and whether she`s okay?
