Tonight when I got Thor out for a play I noticed what looked like spots of blood on his wooden wheel, almost as if he'd got a splinter or hurt a claw. The blood seems to be running by the outer edge of the wheel. He's a really good boy so I got him out for a thorough check and there are no injuries that I can see to his feet, legs, back end or mouth. His feet were quite warm and red but they didn't look as though they had been bleeding. I've recently had to take him to the vets for a urinary infection so know it isn't from his urine as he acts so differently when he's unwell. He's eating/drinking fine and is his usual cheeky self, last time he had urine problems he would just hunch and look miserable so I don't think it's that.
The blood looks like little dots as opposed to a long strip but I can't find the cause at all. There is no blood elsewhere in his cage, he isn't acting ill and there is no food that could have caused this that I can tell. We only leave in a dry mix overnight, all the fresh food is an out of cage treat.
He has been quite obsessed with the wheel since we gave it him, he doesn't seem to do much else. We've taken the wheel out for now in case he has a minor injury that needs resting but I honestly can't find one. Should I put the wheel back in or give him a rest? He has been losing a bit of weight from using it too. I'm going to observe him for a few days closely, is there anything else I should be doing since there seems to be no injury at all?
Thanks
