young hamster sleeps constantly
I've had my hamster for less than a month and he was born in late April... during our first week together, he ran on his wheel, climbed on his platform, chewed his chew things and was pretty active. Now he sleeps all day and most of the night. It's 11:30pm where I am now and he woke up for 2 minutes to drink some water and eat 2 hamster food pieces and now he's back to sleep. His food is gone every morning, so I know he gets up for a little, but that's pretty much it. He doesn't seem sick - he has many hard normal poops and eats all of his food and drinks regularly. I thought maybe he's bored, but I try to interact with him as much as he will let me and he has a bunch of toys (3 houses, 2 of which he can climb on, a log tunnel, 2 sandboxes because he loved to dig, a ladder bridge, and a 12" silent spinner)... what else can I do? He doesn't like his ball... he just climbs in, sits down and sulks. Except for the constant sleeping, he seems okay. What would you guys recommend? I don't necessarily need to play with him for hours and hours if he doesn't want to socialize; I just want him to be happy. He's in a 40 gallon tank and I make sure my apartment is cool enough that even with the extra degrees of temperature caused by the glass, he is still cool. I'm just at a loss here.
Thanks!
