Max and Splodge to the vets
Max has an absess on his scent gland. On Sunday the absess was burst and tons of gunk came out that looked like intestines! Anyway, more goo came out at the vet and it's still bleeding. he had to seal it with silver nitrate to stop the bleeding. He's given me baytril and said see how it goes and he might have to have it cut off and he could die, but he could also die if i leave it.
Splodge has an infection of the eyelid! he's got Baytril, too.

If his abscess keeps coming up I would ask for Fuciderm gel
Baytril should help though and it will need flushing out quite a bit initially.
Get well soon Maxxy

Poor Max I hope he gets better soon, and Splodge too. Sounds like you need baytril on tap.

i'll definately post updates. Splodge is a bit of a biter but was really good having his Baytril. Max had about 10 doses of Baytril at once. i couldn't get the thing to go in and when it did i was like "yes, it's in, quick before it comes out again" and pressed the thing down and half the syringe went in!! i'll miss his next dose (meant to be twice a day) just incase i kill him or something!
It's all my fault in the first place because i was too squeemish to pick off his scent gland scab. That's how this happened. I had no idea it could get infected if you don't pick it off. i just thought it would stay there and be fine. If he dies i'll never forgive myself. All his pain is my fault.

It's not your fault Bunsey, don't blame yourself. You didn't know this would happen.

Right Bunsey lets get this clear. IT IS NOT YOUR FAULT...yes I am shouting at you. You love your hammies and always do what is right for them. We are giving meds at the moment so here is our tip. You need to get your mum or dad to help you. Get one of your dads big old hankies and wrap it round the hamster like a shawl. Let him bite at the cloth and then while you are holding him (you need to draw up the right dosage first) get your mum to push the syringe into the side of his mouth and squish it in. They are usually too busy biting the hankey to notice You should give him some Vetark pro C in his water. Sorry but you may have to go to P@H to get it and hopefully this will keep his bowel working well. I doubt he swalloed all the Baytril and likely spat it out anyway so don't fret. It is easy once you get the knack but you do need two pairs of hands. Keep us posted and ask for further help. If you want I will do a photo guide for you.
