Default Spuds is gone

Well, as some of you may remember from when I introduced myself and my furkids, Spuds (male syrian hammie) had a tumor. The vet told me that as long as it wasn't causing him any pain and he was acting normally, I should just let him live out his life in peace.

Well, about three weeks ago, I noticed that he had an abcess, three days later it ruptured and he was in obvious pain. He wouldn't come down from the top of his cage (he had a Crittertrail X) and wasn't eating much. So I made the appointment. The vet told me that he had cancer which was spreading rapidly and the most humane thing to do would be to euthanize him because he was older and might not make it through the surgery.

They were very nice about it. The nurse took him back and even took his grape so he could eat it. They gave him gas first and then a shot in his heart. I held him as he took his last breaths, It was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do. They offered to dispose of the body for me but I wanted to bury him at home. We had a funeral and buried him next to the babies.

Here are some pictures if anyone is interested. http://photobucket.com/albums/v728/Wolv ... -%20Spudz/

Aww WolvesRaven *huggles*

I’m sorry to hear about your hamster, I can’t imagine how hard it must be to watch a pet pass away like that. But you knew it was the best thing to do, and you should be glad that your hamster inst suffering anymore. I’m sure you know you gave the best life to the hamster as you could, You even decided to let him live with the tumor for a short while so long as he wasn’t in pain and I think that’s noble of you.

I’m sure your little ham will be missed for some time. Just the other day I was thinking about my old hamster butters whole passed away from wettail despite my efforts, so I understand that grieving can be a while

I find though, that its less hard on me when I know that death is going to happen soon rather then when it is sudden.

Well Lots of *huggles*

I'm so sorry, but you must feel better knowing that he is not in any more pain.

Doesn't make it easier but it's true.

*hugs*
