Just returned from the vet and it wasn't good news.
Cheeto has a womb infection. Open pyometra.
The vet took a sample of a very small amount of discharge around her lady bits and he looked at it under a microscope. He said it contains a lot of what you don't want to see. He said what happens is these endometrial infections can enter the blood stream which then causes strain on the kidneys, hence the excessive peeing and drinking. She has been prescribed Baytril for 2 weeks and I am to keep a close eye on her for the first few days. He said in his experience, and based on the symptoms she is and is not displaying, she
should react well to the antibiotics. But of course there is a chance that she won't. And because she is on the older side, surgery would not be a good idea.
My heart is just shattered. I feel like this was the worst answer I could have been given. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't absolutely terrified for her. And I am so not ready to lose her. Not that I ever would be, but I'm sure you all know what I mean.
Any good vibes, thoughts, prayers, positive dances (or anything else you do) you all could send her way would be greatly appreciated. I am not ready to lose my best little furry friend.
