Is there something wrong with Smudge
Hi all
wasn't sure where to post this but i thought it fitted in here. As you know we got Smudge 8 Dec along with her sister Angel. Smudge is tiny compared to Angel and she is really slow when she is walking she also wee's on people that Angel doesn't. She seems healthy and eating and drinking properly but just doesn't move or act like her sibling? Should i be worried or not as i don't want her to suffer if she is.

Re: Is there something wrong with Smudge
They are all different in character we find and it sounds as if Smudge is a shyer more nervous hamster than Angel. Even in the same litter there is often a huge variation in size of the hamsters and it is all down to the genetics. Make sure you give them weekly health checks so you can pick up any problems early for example if Smudges teeth were overgrowing this might make her not eat as well as Angel hence being smaller.
Some hamsters are born with abnormalities just like humans which make them slower or smaller but you just need to see if it is something that needs vet attention or if it is just the way they are.

Re: Is there something wrong with Smudge
Thank you hun there isn't any underlying cause that i know off like i said she eats well and drinks well and takes treats but she is really small hasn't grown much and is really slow when walking. Unsure if it is how she is or a medical problem

Re: Is there something wrong with Smudge
Smudge looks pretty alert to me. I also had a Syrian who was small. He had been the runt of his litter. He never got as big as his father, but he still did well and had a happy life. All hammy's are not frantic little zippy guys. Some are naturally slow. Some move slowly because they're a bit anxious and unsure. The fact that Smudge is eating and drinking well and looks bright eyed like she does is good. Just keep an eye on her. The weeing on people may be because she a little fearful. I wouldn't allow others to hold her. Only you should hold her for now. Wait and see if she becomes more outgoing before you let others hold her. They can pet her with you holding her.
