Default Re: Syrian Hamster Weight

hi I have weighed my hamsters for the first time since getting them.

my hamster 'grace' is around 6 months old and weighs 139g

and my hamster 'Lilith' who is around 3 months weighs 152g

I got grace a few months before Lilith. I got Lilith a few weeks ago and she was noticeably bigger the grace which I wasn't expecting seeing as she was quite a bit younger. so when I weighed them yesterday I wasn't surprised to see Lilith weighed more.

she seems happy and runs on her wheel a lot (more than grace anyway).
do you think this is okay? I was thinking that maybe she is just a larger Syrian?
thank you

They do vary quite a lot within a normal range. It depends on the size of the parents and their lines how big they grow to. Both are within a normal range for a pet shop hamster I would say and as long as they are active, healthy and in good condition I would not worry about the weights. Most hammies reach peak weight about 7-12 months then as they get older they can lose some weight.

I regret not weighing my little guy every week since I got him. I’ve had him about 3.5-4 months now and I feel like he’s lost weight. I think he’s on the older side but I have no idea how old he actually is. I weighed him just now and he was 145g. He is quite small, I’m not worried about that but I feel as though he’s perhaps a bit bonier than he was? Well, he seems healthy and happy and he’s eating fine. I’m away for a week now and have left my housemate in charge. I’ll weigh him when I’m back and see if there’s a difference.

This is good news for me. I've been concerned Ivy is too "fluffy". She weighed 162 grams last week...average. She just has cute, round hamster body!
Thanks for researching this.

I have a feeling my 9 week old syrian is a little too chubby lol. He weighs ~175g,altgo he is around 6.5 inches long so he's a pretty big boy, and since hamsters stop growing at 6 months, he may well grow some more

I’m still not sure how to use forums so forgive me if this is wrong. 6 months ago Budd weighed 224grams. He’s now down to 203grams but he is nearly 2 yrs old. I’m so glad you put this post up as I thought he was underweight.
