Ronnie is sick :(

Ronnie is my long haired Syrian and he is now 1 years and 2 months and I returned from my boyfriends monday (my mum keeps an eye on them when I am not there. He seemed fine saturdat and he was suddenly really skinny it's not noticeable unless you pick him up because he has so much fur. He also has a very dirty bum, his poo isn't really runny just sort of sticky and a bit soft he is also a bit weaker and clumsy so I moved some toys out of his cage so he doesn't hurt himself. I also cleaned his bum and gave him more bedding to keep him warm. He is drinking and eating a small amount. I just don't know what to do. I am planning on getting my boyfriend to take me to the vets when I can get an appointment. I just need stuff
To do in the meantime. I don't want to lose him. I feel terribly guilty he has got in this state.I feel like a terrible hamster mummy. I stayed up with him all night to ensure he stayed hydrated.

It's not your fault, so don't feel guilty. Hamsters are generally fairly robust creatures but can deteriorate very quickly when caught out by illness.

All you can do is keep an eye on him and ensure he's comfortable and clean, then take him to the vet as soon as possible. Eating and drinking is a good sign, the most important thing is to watch his hydration levels. You'll know if he's dehydrated because if you pull the skin back from behind the neck it will snap back quickly if he's hydrated, but take longer to go back if he's dehydrated.
