dirty bits?
hey every one its been a while. i was giving my little Ables his regular check up when i noticed he has black gunk on his genitals. it seems to be on his "wee" and then goes down between his man bits. its dry and there is no sine of wet poops so i am kind of confused. what could this be? could it be old urine that i just need to clean off? or something more serious?

Re: dirty bits?
Its likely to be just the pigment of the skin, it does get darker, like a brownish colour around this area. If everything else down there looks normal, no redness or swelling I would say that this is what it is.

sadly i do not believe it to just be skin pigment because it is a crusty gunky like substance. there is no redness or swelling so i am guessing maybe it is just old pee that he doesn't clean up. i think i will just end up wiping it off with some none scented baby wipes, and then watch the area to see if it comes back quickly.

Re: dirty bits?
Could it be dried blood? Have you checked his peeing spot to see if there is any sign of infection, eg a really strong smell, any blood there, or anywhere else in the cage?

Re: dirty bits?
so i decided to take a closer look and Ables "bits" lol and i think that you are partially right hope. he does have a lot of dark skin pigment, so some of it is just his skin color, but i think the dark crusty stuff i am seeing is actually around his bum hole, i think it might just be some feces that have built up there. once my husband gets home i plan on cleaning Ables bum to making sure i am correct on thinking this.

Re: dirty bits?
Poor Able having to have his 'bits' looked at. My black and white hammy has very dark skin around his boy bits whilst my cream banded one has very pale pink ones. I do hope its no more than dried poo. xxx
