Unhappy Worried about my hamster. Seizure?

So I was say on my bed watching a YouTube video when suddenly Buttons (my Syrian) started to shake and flail around. I am really worried he has had a seizure or something.

Buttons is a fairly old boy, about 2 and a half I think. Also up until about a month ago he had been living in a very dirty cage and his feet were covere in sores. Since I have been caring for him his feet have healed, he has put on weight and his fur is much better. As far as I know he has never had a fit before.

He seems fine now, he had a drink and some food, now he is sorting out his bedding.

Any ideas what happened and will it happen again? I am very worried about him but don't really want to take him to the vets because often in the past they have only advised euthanasia.

I'm not really sure myself, hopefully someone with more experience will see this and reply. Until then can you google it and see what you come up with? If it is an actual seizure it will happen again (our cat has seizures) - it's scary to watch but afterwards he is dazed and confused for a bit then is normal again. Did he seem confused afterwards?

I have tried to google it but I struggled to find anything conclusive at all

He didn't seem to be dazed at all. Afterwards he just walked over to his water for a drink then had a gnaw at his dog biscuit. Also he has been fine all of today so I am less worried but I still do wonder what was up

I am hoping he was just having a funny few minutes and will be okay now but if anyone does have a clue about what could of happened then please share

Sorry to hear he has been poorly

In all honesty I have absolutely no idea what it could be and would normally recommend seeing a vet but as he has been fine since and how old he is I'd only take him to a vet if it happens again.

Perhaps there was an insect in his cage that startled him? Was he sleeping when this happened? My Cheeto has nightmares, or "hammymares" as I refer to them. She will suddenly freak out and leap out of her nest and it makes for an awful scene! But she's fine, and goes right back to sleep usually. Just some things to think about. I would keep an eye on him and call the vet if it happens again, just for peace of mind. Squishes to Buttons. xx

This may sound weird but have you more then one hammy? I only say this because I have two and smudgie does the weirdest thing he literally rolls on his back with his bum and legs all over the place and he is scent marking but very enthusiastically!!
I would be tempted to monitor and see if it happens again.. It could be as gutterglitterxx said an insect or just something that startled him...

Let us know how he is :0)

He is the only hammie in the house and the Guinea pig is kept very far away from him, so I don't think it would be a scent thing. Especially because I wash my hands before and after I touch either of the little fellows

He had just jumped out of his wheel and was very much awake so I am thinking it isn't nightmares, which is good because I would hate to think he was scared

But it could have been a bug because it is such a warm summer and my room seems to attract all manner of creepy crawlies and their winged friends

Good news is that he seems perfectly fine now It has been over 24 hours and he is acting very normally. Eating, drinking, in his wheel and begging me for mealworms

I have passed on your squishes and he squeaked a little thank you

My Zoro used to flail all over the place when I dropped bedding on her head when she wasn't expecting it. It looked funny when she did it. I'm sure he was just startled by something
