how to keep your hams cool in the hot days of summer?
Well, it's 100-or-so-out today, and my AC isn't exactly amazing. My hams are all sleeping outside their houses and appear to be rather upset with the heat. Is there anything I can do for them ? I feel bad for them lol

The best option is to get a rock or ceramic/terracotta item. Put it in the freezer for an hour and then put it in the cage. Even 30 minutes in the freezer is good. Then it'll be something cool for them if they need it.
If you get more than one item per cage then you can swap them as needed through the day too
We find keeping our curtains closed helps stop the heat from getting in with the sun as an extra measure. Its actually all we need to do in warm weather fortunately

I'll try finding something. I just put ice in their water and re-changed it so its cold again. Arhi is very happy with her icewater..LOL

I've been thinking of this every time I go in the freezer, but do you think they might like frozen veg during the summer?

I was thinking about that too, probably half-thawed though, so it doesn't bust their teeth..

I was wondering this too, I read online about freezing a water bottle or soda can, and putting it inside a sock so it does not stick to their fur, and I tried it with a water bottle for my syrian but he didn't seem to take to it.

Re: how to keep your hams cool in the hot days of summer?
a few frozen peas (or just get a few out and leave them for 10 mins or so before giving them to the hams or you could freeze some slices of cucumber. I used a small food storage box with water and froze it, and gave it to terry when it was hot he loved it!
also, an icecube in an egcup is nice then they can have a fresh cold drink, you can also freeze babyfood for a frozen food

The frozen veg I have is a mix of corn, carrot, and green beans or peas (I think). Would any of those be alright if thawed a bit?
