My ham got a cut above her eye a few weeks ago that looked sort of like that. She had been biting the bars and I think scraped her face on one of the small hooks holding the cage together.

Not sure what kind of cage you have, but I'd look for anything he could cut himself on while chewing.

Hope he's feeling better!

He has a mini duna so no bars but I'm going to look into getting him a new house as he has chewed the entrance to shreds and I don't like the thought of his bad eye scraping past the bits he's chewed as they look rough.

I put his eyedrops on for the first time there, swaddled him in a scarf so he couldn't wriggle or bite and that worked fine. The drops are really viscous though, I expected they would be watery but when I put it on it just looked like a layer of goo over his eye. The second I put him back in his bed it had wiped off. So I'm hoping that that's normal and I don't need to do anything else to make sure that the stuff gets in to his eye. Once I've put them on should I hold him like that for a little while do you think to make sure it's not just wiping straight off? He wouldn't like it but so long as he gets better that's not so concerning

Your drops sound less er... nice? than ours
Ours actually are mostly watery and Scruff kindly washes madly and makes sure they get into her eye properly after we do them anyway lol
It might be that he wiped it into his eye? I'm sure some got in anyway

They're meant for larger animals (would still be gooey and weird on them too though I guess) but the vet said they're fine for hamsters there just isn't a lot on the market specifically for them.

I could try and put some on a cotton bud first so that it's definitely going in about the eye and not just sitting on the fur on top (his eye is pretty closed over sometimes at the minute so I worry about it just all ending up on his fur rather than his eyeball) but I'm having to do this alone so having to wrestle with a hamster and the drops and a cotton bud at once might be difficult.
