Default I think Darcey has Pyometra :(

I posted last week about picking Darcey up and finding blood around her bottom. She was taken to the vets the next day and given a course of antibiotics.

Well last night I picked her up and felt wetness around her bottom. I turned her over and pushed on her belly and some pinky/yellowy fluid came out Looks like a Pyometra to me

She's on anti b's twice a day already, but I have just made an appointment to see another vet at the surgery tomorrow to discuss treatment and whether he would spay

I feel sick with worry about the thought of her having the op, but at the moment she is very well - eating, drinking and wanting out and is very active when out - so I think she would be strong enough

I'll see what the vet has to say tomorrow. I feel physically sick - Darcey is my soul ham

I'm sorry to hear this i hope that as she is well other than this at the moment that she pulls through the op well, The stronger she is now, the more chance she has.

I really hope the vets help you, and my thoughts are with you both xxx

I can understand you feeling sick because she's your sole hamster. Angel is ours but even if we had 100 hamsters I can't imagine what we'd do in your position - we woudn't want her to suffer but would like her to have the best chance of a great life. Good luck with your next appointment and the op if you go through with it. Will be thinking of you

I'm so sorry Shazzy. If she needs an operation its better when she's well than wait until she's less strong. But you already know that. Good luck with the vet. They're a lot more resilient than we give them credit for. xxx

Thanks for all the comments guys. I have asked to see Jeremy at the vets who has over 20 years of experience. I have talked to him before with Daisy about spaying and he said it could be done (but Daisy was older, thinner and weaker than Darcey is now so we didnt do it, just kept her on anti b's). The vet I saw the other day didnt sound so confident about spaying as treatment so I didnt want to see him again. Hopefully Jeremy will have the answer for her. It is just breaking my heart as she is such a plucky little character

Hope that Jeremy is able to give you the information that you need. Not an easy decision to make either way but you will make the right one once you know the options. Fingers crossed for encouraging news.

Oh no! I am so upset to hear this Shazzy. I don't want Darcey to have to suffer like Poppy did. Our two little chubby girls. You were so kind to me when she was ill. Hoping & praying she makes a full recovery. xxx
