Re: Cage Cleaning!
For me it depends on the type of bedding used and also how messy the hamster in question is. Using hay, I'd say once a week for an averagely messy animal, and every five days for a very messy one. Using extra-absorbent bedding I'd say between 7-11 days for the average hamster. For sand that covers the whole litter tray in a layer of an inch at least, I'd say 2 weeks, but do clean the bits where your hamster pees, as damp sand is not great. Sand seems to last longer than any other type of substrate, because it 'absorbs' odours and waste very well. Poo seems to just disappear in it. [?]
It also depends on how big the enclosure is. The bigger it is, the less often you have to change the whole litter.
I think you need to wipe clean toys/houses/feeding bowls at least once a week, depending on how often your hamster uses them. Princess unfortunately pees in her wheel, so I have to clean it every couple of days or so.

Re: Cage Cleaning!
Er... We do them whenever they need it really... Often only about once a month to be honest.
They're on a good substrate and have big cages so the mess tends to be spread out and doesn't need cleaning very often at all. We've never had pee stains at all other than when our syrian decided to clear the substrate and pee directly onto the plastic.
We do clean toilet areas as and when though, which is usually more often.

Re: Cage Cleaning!
every 2 weeks i clean the whole cage, i clean the hamster bed out every week and the sand baths out whenever i need to which is usualy every 2 days. because of the hams use their sand baths as toilets i have no problems with pee stains on the cage.

Re: Cage Cleaning!
I have an Imac which I find very easy to clean. Every day I clean his toilet of soiled litter and his whole toilet once a week. His food bowls every day and wash them. I give him fresh water and wash his bottle every day. I dismantle his cage once a week and give it a thorough clean. I use Carefresh and just spot clean that once a week. Once a month he has a complete Carefresh change. He has toilet paper for bedding. I change that once week and just give him a little of his old bedding
back and it top up.

Re: Cage Cleaning!
Spot clean every two days, change the toilet litter every two days and clean the entire cage every two weeks. No pee stains but then Luna only pees in her toilet and if she misses it (she sometimes walks so far back she pees over the edge) I just remove the wet substrate. No chance for it to get anywhere near the base to stain it

Re: Cage Cleaning!
Spot clean every day, including scooping out the wet sand in the sand bath which is used as a toilet. I change the sand completely and use a new tray for it twice a week, then I do a complete cage clean every three weeks.

Re: Cage Cleaning!
Ours get a thorough clean/wash out every month. On top of that they have a partial clean every week. Sand baths & beds every few days & the Syrians pee corners every few days too.
