Chipped/Broken tooth
I'm posting on behalf of mum and Sassy. I gave sassy a check over today and it seems she has broken part of her bottom teeth, i think it has happened in her last cage we got her a plastic one the other day, the old one was barred. Now she is eating fine and seems not to be any pain, but mum wants to know if she needs to get it seen to and would appreciate any advice..x

Re: Chipped/Broken tooth
if it's only a small chip she should be ok, make sure she has plenty of wood to chew on and it should even out as it grows

Re: Chipped/Broken tooth
They do tend to have problems eating if the teeth are not even. I would take him to the vet to make sure to be honeset as he could have loosened it when chewing also.

Re: Chipped/Broken tooth
Yes, probably best have the teeth checked because the vet will tell you if there is anything to worry about. Giving her a small bonio/dog biscuit broken in half so that it has a rough edge. Hamsters with a chipped tooth or broken or slack tooth won`t gnaw on wood or anything too hard. It`s a bit like when we know one of our teeth is wonky, we compensate and chew at the other side, or eat soft food until we can see the dentist. So looking more closely at her actual diet and making sure she can manage extruded biscuits and anything hard. Giving those a tap with a hammer should help her aswell.

Re: Chipped/Broken tooth
It's very common and is harmless most of the time. Just make sure that there are plenty of chew toys in the cage. If you're going to the vets anyway, maybe they'll clip the other one down to the same size.
My old hamster Albion left 3/4 of one his incisors inside a dog, and he was fine.

Re: Chipped/Broken tooth
My honey ham completely broke off a bottom tooth.. she was in no pain.. had no difficulties eating.. She was eating carrot from her wood log and that isnt easy.. it is rock hard.
Within a day or 2, the tooth grew back and she is still fine
