thank you for the guide. my hamster hates being turned around though and I have to quickly check him.

he had a little scruff above his eye the other day so I had to smoothed it off to make sure he's ok. it was just him scratching.

Question Re: How To Give Your Hamster A Health Check

Hello,
Can any experienced hamster helper help us out?
Whenever my hamster comes out with us for a while when I go to put her back she has wet around her mouth, what could this mean?
Lucy is a 9 week old Syrian Hamster from pets at home. Only had her for a week..

Thank you for this post! Scruffing my ham has always been an issue, she hates it, haha. However, I always try to do it once in awhile to give her teeth a good look. I also think it's critical to hold/play with your ham once a day to feel around for any lumps.

Just came across this again while looking up about trimming nails So although it's an old thread and stickied, just thought it could be useful to re-read for new owners so this post is sort of bumping it as well

Great guide!
Thank you!
This should start after the taming process has been completed, right?

ArBell I would wait until your ham is comfortable with being handled before attempting a full health check but you can still do a fairly good check just by observation until then.
