I think he has had a little spot abcess which has indeed burst and is healing up nicely now
Glad to hear he is doing well and getting used to things. You have done a good job with him for sure.

Great news! It's so endearing when Chineseys cling, especially when they just hang upside down He's obviously feeling perky and playful.

Littlish update, its starting to look a little red again, been keeping an eye on it and hes seems to be sneezing alot, one of his eyes looking a little red. i dont know if its his bedding thats doing that or he has the cold. i keep his cage covered up at night with blankets to help if it does.

I'd try changing the bedding and if it comes back anymore insist on some antibiotics from the vet. Take the 'normal pics' to show the vet. You don't want the infection flaring up again in that area in case it causes lasting damage.

Sorry to hear that ShannenClare. I can`t offer up any advice really about his nether regions but my initial thought on the sneezing would be that whichever substrate you are using, be it shavings, carefrash, megazorb or something else, needs complete airing and preperation before use. My chinese female is very sensitive to new aromas or fine dust and because she went through a phase last year of sneezing and making odd breathing noises, I don`t take any chances now and never do full cage cleans. Here is what I do incase you want to follow my lead:

Using a storage box without a lid, put any fresh substrate into this and air it for a good month before use. Take the box outdoors and using your hands, lift up handfuls of it and allow the air through. This also gets rid of the `new` smell from shavings, which release phenols naturally and can cause breathing issues with small animals. Use hemp/aubiose if you can rather than shavings as it`s much better and less likely to cause problems. Aubiose or other hemp is available from Zooplus and GJW titmus online.

Use paper based bedding/nesting material (plain white toilet paper ripped into little squares is fine).

Make sure he is in a room with no draughts or is prone to get very cold if temperatures dip. he still needs good ventilation though so covering his cage might not help with that. Especially if you use wood shavings. If you do, I would change these as soon as possible. My chinese doesn`t do well with shavings wich is why I switched to hemp, yet I still air it out a month before using it and prepare it well in advance. Only remove a few handfuls of substrate at a time when cleaning and add a few new handfuls. This lowers the risk of having too much new substrate too often and exposing him to it.

If he has a sand bath, he could have irritated his eye bathing, or it may be related to his sneezing. They can be prone to colds, so keep him warm but not hot.
