Default Scabs and lumps

Hi all. I have a Russian Dwarf, about 10 months old. About a week ago we noticed two small scabs on his back, like he'd bit himself. One is actually on the back if his neck area, but I suppose he could still reach it.
After a couple of days they looked better, but now they look worse again, like he's been aggravating them. The larger scab also appears to have a lump beneath it. The whole thing is the size of a peppercorn.
Any ideas? Mites? Tumours? A trip to the vet needed?
Thanks.
