Unhappy shaking/shivering/trembling

Just found one of my dwarfs Sprout, curled up in his bed really shaking. He feels quite cold and he isn't moving much at all I tried offering him some water and baby food but he isn't taking any. I'm going to call the vet and try take him up asap today because I really don't think this is good. Any idea about the shaking? I've never seen it before and it is quite upsetting to see My poor Sprout

EDIT: He is much more responsive to me now he is eating some food!! and his eyes are starting to open, the shaking isn't as severe, could he just of been cold? :S

Oh no that must have been so worrying

He could have just been cold, I have been constantly worried about whether my hams are warm enough over night, especially the ones on their own. I don't know where you have him placed, but I try to keep mine away from windows even if they are shut and away from outside walls, if they are near an outside wall, I'd try to have the nest area as far from possible. You could try a heat pad under the cage where Sprout's nest is, loads of extra bedding, anything really to keep him extra toasty.

I really hope he's ok

He is back to normal now! Running about! So strange he must of been really cold to be shaking so much like that I've moved his cage and given him a huge pile of bedding.

Poor baby. I'm glad he seems better. It does sound as if he was cold.

It does sound like sever shock to cold stella. The shaking could have been his body responding to that upon waking. Disorientation. The weather is freezing during the night, so try to keep your room warm if you can. Hamsters are good at dealing with the cold rather than the heat, but sudden changes can make them quite ill.

So pleased to hear Sprout is okay. x

Does he have an open nest? If so, maybe get him a cosy house now that it's so cold

He has a large wooden house but I have given him loads more bedding

Not long after Sprout was back to normal I thought I'd better check on the others and found Sprouts brother, Brussels in a similar state, though no shaking He wasn't moving and was cold but still alive. I held him beside a hot water bottle for a while and he soon went back to normal too...thank god! It wasn't even cold to me in the room but I have put the heating on. Just shows you how sensitive hamsters can be to temperature drops!

Ive had the heating on since the cold weather started! My excuse is to stop the pipes freezing, but its really to keep the hams warm
The hams have loads of bedding.. So far mine have been fine Sleeping a little more.. but they still come out to play every night. If I had my way, I would stay in bed longer too!

So glad yours have recovered

I made that sound like I haven't had any heating on at all lol
We put our heaters on manually so I just meant I turned it on just then for a boost of warmth Mine have loads of bedding too but you should see the size of their nests after today, pretty much takes up half the cage coming out their houses :P
