Syrian teeth - how long is too long?
I just saw Bear yawn and her bottom teeth seem very much longer than Dinah's or Magic's. I consulted Hamsterlopaedia, which says it's hard to define what is too long and you should consider other factors. Bear seems to eat OK, I've recently moved her from a tank to a wired cage and she hasn't chewed the bars, and she has no cuts near her mouth. On the other hand, she is thinner than the others, used to chew her bottle, and has a scab on her back. I've given her her first dog biscuit in a while. Should I take her to the vet for an opinion?

Re: Syrian teeth - how long is too long?
They can look very long I always think but they are still OK for the hamsters jaw fit. I would go with them causing problems in seeing drooling, weight loss, difficulty in eating etc before thinking they needed trimming.
Maybe monitor her with weighing for a week or two and if she continues to drop weight then have her seen unless you feel there really is a problem. It could well be that not bar chewing has made them grow longer.
Hope she is OK and she starts to chew her dog biscuit now!
Jack please ensure you read the question in full to get the correct reference!

Oo, yes Bubbles teeth are quite long though, but i still think they're alright tbh.... I would'nt really want to trim his teeth but yes, Souffle is right actually.... I think that weight loss is what i have seen before with other people's hamsters....

Thanks, Souffle. My scales are the kind with weights so I'll pop to Argos later for some more sensitive electronic ones so I can keep an eye on her.

I'd get the 1g gap ones rather than the 5g although bear in mind that you need to make allowances because the difference between ' having pee'd and not having a pee' is about 10g
