Help me, my Cyrus is sick (Please)
Hi guys,
I really need your help.
I have a hamster named Cyrus and she is 2 years in 1 month, so kinda old.
She is a winter white russian dwarf hamster.
I left on holiday for 6 days and left her in our bathroom.
Meanwhile when we were away it snowed and it covered the window, leaving her mostly in the dark.
When I got home, her eye was all red (left eye)
Anyone know what it is.
Over the days at home (2) it is slowly getting better.

Re: Help me, my Cyrus is sick (Please)
Hi. Six days is a long time to leave an elderly hamster alone with no attention, especially in a cold room like a bathroom in wintertime. Red eye in small animals could be caused by porphyrin tears, which stain the eyelids and fur around the eye. It can be an indication of a lowered immune system (because she`s old) or illness and sleeping too much due to not having any interaction.
The best thing to do is have a friend or a family member take the hamster if your going away for more than 24 hours. If the hamster is fed, watered and given some attention, it helps. Is she okay now or is her actual eyeball swollen? She may require a vet, but it`s impossible for me to say just going on a short description.

you would leave your ham for 6 days alone with out any looking into... Poor Cyrus!
I hope he gets better.
Do change the bedding and food and stuff to give her fresh of everything. Helps to keep everything clean.

Re: Help me, my Cyrus is sick (Please)
This isnt a dig at you or anything as many pet owners still arent aware of it but I just though I would add that the RSPCA classes it as neglect to leave an animal unattended for more than 24 hours. Just so you will know for future reference
I wonder whether he has scratched his eyelid on something as this may cause redness and swelling to such a sensitive area. Are his claws very long or does he having anything sharp or 'pokey' in his cage? Other than that I would just go with what RH said
I hope he gets better!
