Yup, vets have dissolving stitches now
Keep an eye on them anyway though - they're probably going to be fine, but once in a while one will have something go slightly wrong and need the vet to remove it despite them being expected to dissolve. Is rare and pretty much harmless though, just figured it was worth mentioning since I'd never have thought of it as a possibility until it happened to my parents dog a while back.

I'm glad she's doing really well, and good idea with the hot water bottles. I hope they keep her warm and that she recovers well and quickly soon

Gus had dissolving stitches but one didn't dissolve but when I stroked his tummy about 3 weeks later it must have dissolved inside and it fell off !
She really has done so well.
I wonder if you took any pictures CoolcatNatNat44 and if you would be willing to write up your experiences because this condition crops up quite often and it might encourage people to go ahead and operate and what they could expect?
I think we have given toys back after 5 days but it depends on the hammy and how things are healing up.

No problem, I learnt more than I expected to about them when Hec had his op in the end.
And er... yeah, when toys would be ok seems to be best dependant on the hamster really.

Oh and please do write up your experiences if you can. I'd really appreciate it, since I'd really like to learn more about the op and what to expect and such. I know you won't know much, but having whats happened, how she is, how she heals e.t.c all written up would be really handy for me, and probably plenty of others with mild concerns about a ham developing pyo eventually. (With seven females I'd like to know as much as I can so that I could be as informed as possible if the situation ever arose, I also want to know the semi-common ailments in general now rather than learning loads when worried about a sick ham.)

It sounds to me like she may be in the early stages of wet-tail a potentially fatal disease in or she isn't eating a proper diet, owners have to be careful about what they feed their pets because certain things like chocolate contain chemicals that can actually harm a hamster. Just to be safe I would go out and buy some wet-tail drops to add to her water and try to keep her in a quiet area of the house because stress is one of the leading causes of wet-tail.Hope this helps!
