My Hamster Escaped
My hamster escaped, but I found him eight hours later. I can see that she is a bit cut up, as she was living in the walls. But in my house, we have a small amount of rat poison from here to there, and I'm a bit worried if she ate some. She's been alive since Sunday, so I assume that if she ate some, she would be dead by now. But if it takes a while to kick in, the only oddness I've noticed since I put her back in her cage, is that she sleeps all day, and from what I can tell, all night too. And when I have a chance to take her out, she walks a little lopsided and odd. But if she did eat poison, is there anything I should be looking for and what could I do?

Re: My Hamster Escaped
ild say take her to the vet, it could be a stroke making her lopsided, do you have the packing for the rat poison? take that too, it will tell the vet what is inside, then they know how to counter it. i hope she feels better soon x

Re: My Hamster Escaped
ild try and get her to one as soon as possible, if she has poison in her system it might slowly shut things down, for now keep her warm, make sure she is eating and drinking, make sure she can pass both liquid and solid, watch out for any squinting, runny eyes or noses, iritations like scratching obsessively or acting strangely

Re: My Hamster Escaped
She doesn`t sound good if he`s weak. Rat poison (I would never use this even if I had rats or mice around) as it`s inhumane. It stops the animals blood from clotting naturally and they bleed to death. Not something you want near a pet hamster incase they do escape. It`s so easy sometimes for a hamster to get loose. I don`t know if these types of poisons can be reversed or not, but either way, if your hamster has ingested any rat poison, he will either need treated quickly, or euthanased to prevent him dying a horrible death.

Re: My Hamster Escaped
Rat poison would mean a flushing of the system for any leftover bits and then praying. Unlike with cats and dogs you can't give hamsters any sort of anti-poison as their systems are so delicate. I've never had rat or mouse poison down as I've got cats and dogs who'd love to eat some. Hope he's okay.
