Applying mite treatment
I've just got reggie out for his next 2 drops of xeno 50 mini. Put him in a plastic cup like they did at the vets. I was nervous bout putting too much on and I'm not sure if he's got too much on him. Will it harm him? I think I pushed it too hard and it came out in a bit of a squirt. And he moved so it was more like down the side of him. I'm terrified I've done something wrong now! With him being in a cup it might be on his paws also. Will be ok? I feel terrible

Re: Applying mite treatment
Hi Laura. Is Reggie a syrian or a dwarf hamster? If your vet gave you the Xeno50 mini to apply, they should have given you the dosage to apply onto his skin just behind his neck area. The Xeno50 mini that is bought off Amazon and other websites is the same, but comes with a dosing chart. It goes by the bodyweight of the hamster or other small pet, so if you pop Reggie on the scales, get his weight in grams, I have the Xeno50 mini dosing chart here and can tell you how many `drops` to give.
If you have already squirted some onto his fur though, it should be enough. Your vet will be able to tell you if and when he needs a second treatment and when. Hope this helps in the meantime.
Edited to add: I read your post again and you said your vet said to give Reggie 2 drops? So his weight must be somewhere between 20 - 40 grams? This is the dose according to the dosing chart I have here for Xeno50 mini spot on.

Re: Applying mite treatment
Yes he's 30g. 2 weeks ago the vet gave him 2 drops and today was time for another treatment. Just worried I've overdosed him

Re: Applying mite treatment
I wouldn`t worry really. If most of it ran down his fur and onto the floor or the tub, chances are some of it was wasted anyway. Were mites suspected? Has Reggie stopped itching? The Xeno50 is usually good stuff. It`s Ivermectin solution but it is better than the Beaphar shop bought one. I used it on a mouse and by the next day, her itching had gone.
Did your vet say just to treat Reggie at home after he gave the first dose? It`s easy enough to do even though the hamster can be a fidget when trying to apply it!

Re: Applying mite treatment
Yes the vet said it was mites as soon as she saw reggie. And she said to give him 2 more treatments 2 weeks apart so I have to do it again! Ill try be more careful next time! Well I think reggie is fine. When I got home last night he was out running around his cage like there was no tomorrowm I've not seen him with that much energy for weeks! And he didn't scratch once thanks for the replies..it puts the mind at ease

Re: Applying mite treatment
No problem Laura. Sounds as if your managing things fine. It can be tricky to apply topical treatments when the hamster is running about! I usually wait until he/she is sitting eating something and then hover over the neck area and `drop` the solution on. It does soak in but sometimes the animal will feel it and shake it off!
If he puts his paws up on the side of the container as if to climb out, this is a good time to draw up the fur behind the head with your finger, quickly place the dose under the fur and that`s it.

Also, I wouldn't worry too much about getting it elsewhere, because it'll rub off on his bedding etc.
