Question Red poop and picky eating?

Hi,

My male hamster's poops are a slight shade of red. I decided to check it every day when he comes out, but for three days it's been like this. I fed him carrot every other day, but stopped it for these three days, but it hasn't changed at all. He did recently change hamster food to Harry Hamster a few weeks ago, as his old one had been replaced by a newer version, which had lots of colourings in. Do you think this is the reason? Or is he sick?

I did a test and put a fist full of his new food on my hand. He took two different pieces, and left the rest. I've done this a few times, and it's the same every time. Surely this can't be healthy for him, but I can't think of a solution. I've considered looking for a hamster food which isn't a muesli, so he gets a balanced diet, and can't be picky, but the two problems are that I've got to find one which is a good healthy brand, and changing his food for a third time doesn't sound too good.

Really hoping someone can help me, he's two years old in a couple of months if that helps? Really looking forward to some answers, thanks!

No, I don't like to use anything with colouring in. But a good guess to be fair, thanks anyway.

If it's just slightly brownish rather than black, and you are feeding him a lot of fruit and veg, that might be it. Otherwise if you think it is really red, maybe it could be blood and he ought to see the vet?
