Pouching tissue...? and not eating?
I caught Joe pouching Tissue the other night, is this normal?
His food doesnt seem to be going either.. He has been eating this for all his life, and recently has just stopped. He is drinking though. Last night I boiled some oats and then gave his a bite of lettuce and baby-food. He ate this, but I dont know it he acutally ate it or not, Im really worried. Any suggestions?

Has he got a stash of food hidden somewhere he could be eating from? Also o you weigh him weekly? Its a good thing to do that way you can tell if he loses weight.

Re: Pouching tissue...? and not eating?
I thought lettuce wasn't a good food choice for hamsters? I read somewhere that it's actually believed to be bad for them.
I would recommend more fiber and some probiotics for Joe! These are two of the most important components to keeping the bowels moving properly in mammals! If you can get BeneBac probiotic gel for small mammals it would help protect Joe from diarrhea and constipation (plus it's yummy, he'll think it's a treat )
However, since you suspect he's not going, I would be weighing him daily. If Joe has a blockage and he continues to eat he can get seriously sick. Fecal impaction is a life threatening health problem. Until you know Joe's going again I would weigh him daily and make an appointment with the vet.

Pouching tissue is perfectly normal, he will be collecting it for his nest
Can you check his teeth? Also do you know if hes lost any weight?
Its possble he just has a big store and doesn't need any more, but its always a good idea to check in case he is ill or has teeh problems.

His teeth seem to be fine, he yawned just he other day and I looked. Hmm..and everyone has been saying weight? Ive never weighed him before, How do i? He has been acting the same, running around like a maniac and such. There is no way he is in pain! Or if he is, hes NOT showing it. At all. Im really worried.. He slept ALOT last night though.. I have him in my room now, and he wasnt active as he usually is, he went to bed at (approximitly) 1. He is usually awake more that that! D: I checked on him in the morning, he was ok.

Re: Pouching tissue...? and not eating?
I weigh mine in a box on some kitchen scales. Then I weigh the box and see what the difference was to find out the rodents weight.
