Now Poor Little Phoebe is Poorly

Last night I had Phoebe out in her ball and I noticed that there was some blood in the ball when I took her out. I gave her a good check over mouth, eyes, ears, bum, paws etc, no sign of any blood at all.

She was acting completely normally and being her usual crazy self, ears up, bight eyed, running around like a loony.

I decided to clean her out to see if I could spy any traces of blood on her bedding or anywhere in her cage, again nothing.

So I popped her back in her nice clean cage, she dug like a loony in her sand bath and went for a wee, as she usually does when its fresh, but there it was, more blood, my poor little girl She is passing watery blood in her urine.

I got an apointment forst thing this morning with the vet, and she has been given some baytril, a 10 day course. The vet is treating it as a urine infection, which is what I hope it is, but he said to be prepared that it could be a sign of something more serious such as a tumor, or kideny problems.

One thing I am a bit confused about though is the dosage of the baytril, he told me 0.12ml once a day, but on other threads on here people have been giving 0.01ml? Has he over perscribed? He weighed her and everything to work it out, but I am wondering if he has got the decimal points in the wrong place?

Im hoping that it will clear up and wont be anyrthing too seroius, but I have to admit it has got me in a bit of a panic, especially so soon after loosing Boz, I cant let Phoebe go too

I'd definately check the dose as Bailey was originally prescribed 0.1ml which didn't sound right, I checked and I'd been overdosing him, he only needed 0.01ml.

Sorry to hear she's ill too, it must be so hard. xxx

Oh gosh, Poor angel pie
Seeing blood is the most awful thing, I know I panicked big time!
I swear Peggy had 0.04ml, which the vet said was smaller than normal hamster doseage as she was teeny.

Fingers crossed its just a UTI xxx

what weight is she? and what strength baytril solution is it? there are a few different strengths

the dosage is normally 10mg/kg twice a day HOWEVER if there is a particularly nasty infection, some vets will choose to treat it with a double strength dosage, and if its not too bad an infection some will go for a lower dose, the rang vets normally prescribe in, depending on the severity is 5 - 15mg/kg

I am new to Hamsteria but from what I've read Baytril is highly effective. I wouldn't be able to sleep if I saw blood like that. That she is lively and active is a good sign I think. Best wishes and good vibes going out to Phoebe!!!

Poor Phoebes, hope she is on the mend v soon; did you get the dosage sorted out? Bet you already thought of this, but if not, I would PM Souffle. I hope she is being a good girl and taking her meds nicely xx These babies are a worry sometimes, aren't they!
