Eye question

I just checked on Nova because she appeared to be awake in her cage and I noticed that one of her eyes wasn't really open. At first I thought it was because she just woke up, but the other eye was open completely. I took her out of her cage and checked her over, she seemed fine aside from that one eye. After a minute or two it started opening up and I wiped her eye gently with a warm cotton ball and after that it was open completely.

I think what happened was, earlier I set some banana on her nest which was level to her head.. I think her fur brushed against the banana and ended up crusting on her fur which made it hard for her to open her eye. When I put her back in her cage it was open but not fully, although her eyes look very clear and bright, I'm thinking the fur probably got a little sticky? I'm gonna continue gently wiping the eye to make sure it's clean and nothing is stuck to it.

This happened to Greyjoy a few weeks ago and is very common in older hamsters. They pretty much get sticky eye from waking up just like us humans do. They normally pop straight open when you wipe with damp cotton wool etc. That being said you do have to keep an eye on it as there is the small chance it could be an eye infection but this would generally have a discharge or crust forming and would close up very regularly.

I just checked on her and her eye is open normally, gonna make sure it's clean once she gets up and moving around :P
