Wild Mouse in the Hamster Room
My fiance and I discovered the other day that we have a mouse in the hamster room. We set up three humane traps and baited them with peanut butter and hamster food, but the little pest is smart! We still haven't caught it.
The boys cages are up on tables...do you think there is a chance of the wild mouse getting in to their cages? Don't mice carry Tyzzer's disease? Can this be harmful to my boys?
I don't want to have to move them, since they are in one of the only air-conditioned rooms in my apartment. But I will if the wild mouse would cause any health threats.
Ideas? Suggestions?

Re: Wild Mouse in the Hamster Room
It is a bacterial infection so sadly it can be transmitted to any rodent that comes into contact. Just like a human bacterial infection cleaning like mad will help stop any spread.
Mice are so clever when it comes to trapping... have any of the traps been disturbed at all?

Re: Wild Mouse in the Hamster Room
My cat brings in mice like.. ALL the time We have our mouse catching shoe box, we try and get the mouse out, by one person moving the stuff that it's hiding in, and then another person should have the shoebox, and place it on top of the mouse.. Then you slide paper or something under it and lift it! Then we let it free in the garden
I have no idea about the diseases and stuff, sorry!
Good luck

Re: Wild Mouse in the Hamster Room
Good luck! I have failed horribly at removing mice from my family's home! We live near an old farm and field area and the field mice have just decided they'd rather live indoors. They're bold too! They have approached me in the middle of a room and waited until I was inches away from catching them before scurrying away!
They're the strangest looking mice too...I've never seen white markings on wild mice in our area before

The bait that I set in front of the traps to lure the mouse into the traps has been taken. The bait inside the trap hasn't.
My boys are both up on tables, so I doubt that the mouse could get into their cages. But I'm paranoid.

Re: Wild Mouse in the Hamster Room
Yeah my fella works on the tube (the subway) and they are overrun with rodents. They try and kill them with old fashioned pest control men. Its horrible and my bf hates it. They put down sticky paper with food in the middle but the mice have worked out if they don't stop they won't get stuck so they run across the paper picking up the food as they run and sitting down to eat it on the other side of the paper...

Ugh, I know. The thing is that, no matter where in the apartment we put them, the mouse could go as well. We think its hanging out in the baseboards, which go around the entire apartment. So we thought we might as well keep them in the room that is air conditioned (it's about 85 degrees in my apartment right now).
Also, the mouse could have been here for months without us noticing it...

Re: Wild Mouse in the Hamster Room
I'm 100% sure my house has no mice here. And if it does, those are some unlucky mice to be sharing a house with 15 cats. So I've got no advice except I hope you catch the micey soon.
