Default Kinked tail

Ive just noticed that Bailey (Ive finally named him ) has a kinked tail.

I thought it looked abit odd and after having a little feel u can feel a really bad kink rite at the base of the tail and the tail points up.

does anyone have any information they can share with me about this???

Im abit disappointed as hes from a breeder and when i got him they told me, about his brothers kinked tail but didnt say anything about his.

Edit - Ive just noticed as well that if u look at him from the back one hmmmm man piece is higher then the other - is this normal due to a kinked tail? ive felt down his spine and its not curved!

I don't think it will harm Bailey but if him or another littermate (with a kink) was bred from then it can worsen further down the line (in the pups) and even lead to a curve in their spine - so I've heard.

I'd maybe try and contact the breeder if you can.

Have you got a Hamsterlopaedia book? If so there's a large paragraph at the top of page 113.

You also might want to know that if you were planning to show him in a main show, he would be disqualified for the kink (according to the book).

At first I was thinking they held back incase it would put you off buying him, but as a breeder I doubt they'd do that as it isn't right. :/

Ah, it's a shame but he's a lovely little lad.

I have a dark grey girl with a kinked tail and she has no problems from it. Some kinks are hereditary (it is more common in dark greys) and some can come from injuries where the tail is broken.
Snickers, NHC breeders declare any known problems with a hamster they sell, especially where it would affect their ability to be bred or shown. It is only fair to potential owners to be fully informed. I would contact the breeder directly as she is a reputable, responsible breeder - she will want to know about this and will be able to offer advice. I'm sorry you have had a problem

Im not sure if she was aware of it when she sold him as it does seem to have gotten more noticable the longer ive had him, But I will let her know.
Ive been in contact with her since buying him to give her an update and some pictures, so I will inform her of this.
It could be a hereditary since his brother who was a drak grey had a kinked tail.

I didn't know if this would cause any future issues with him or anything i needed to keep an eye on
