It definitly is good for all small animals and cats and dogs as it does boost the immune system too.

Default UPDATE, sad news

Little Silver got a lot worse over the weekend. She had been picking up a little, but I think the stress and pain got to her and last night she was staggering around the cage, falling over and she kept curling up as if in lots of pain

She wouldn't eat anything, even baby food, and she wasnt able to reach up to the water bottle so I had to take it into the cage itself and hold it next to her; even then she didn't have the energy to drink much

So, I had to take the horrible decision to take her to the vet this morning to be pts. I know it was the best thing for her as she would only have got worse and it isn't fair to prolong any animal's suffering, but I still feel so bad about her being in pain and not being able to do anything about it until today

Her and her sister have been my companions for the best part of 16 months, and she was just over 18 months old when she was pts so I know she's had a good long life.

I really will miss her: they both have / had such personalities and I hope her sister carries on for a good while yet. She looks fine and healthy so at least nothing contagious was passed onto her.

Sarah xx

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. You knew when the time had come and helped her to peaceful rest. That is a very brave thing to do. I hope you memories will comfort you.
RIP Silver and play happily at the bridge

Sarah that's so sad but you have done your best by her all this time and given her a loving and caring home in which she was able to be a part of. I hope if the time comes that I am able to show the courage you have in this situation. Have fun at the bridge little one. :-(

Thank you both so much xx

It really wasn't an easy decision and I was in tears as we came out from the vet's. The vet herself seemed genuinely moved as well and spent ages stroking her. Even my boyfriend was in tears and he's not a massive fan of hamsters! He also sat up half the night to keep an eye on her in case she passed away while I was asleep.

I've always said that I'd never prolong any animal's suffering and it would have been so selfish of me to keep her going when she clearly wasn't able to even eat or walk by herself. I have wonderful memories of her and they'll stay with me always.

I still have her sister, and Frank, my Winter White dwarf to care for

I think I'll always have dwarfies as they're just so adorable and have great litle personalities.

RIP my little darling xxx
