Default Vaginal bleeding

This evening I had Mouse the chinese hamster out in the bath and when I went to put her away I notice what looked like blood in one of the boxes. When I looked in her cage I noticed a few other spots on things and on the floor and when I checked her saw that she was bleeding from her vaginal area. I then looked in her wigwam where she's been sleeping this week and the tissue in there is spotted with blood, and she seems to have moved out of there and into her house. For such a tiny hamster there seems to be quite a bit of blood and I'm not sure how long she has been bleeding for as I didn't have her out yesterday though she was fine on Wed. I've done a Google search and found that females don't have monthly cycles but can spot once or twice in their lifetime, but feel there is too much blood for this. I also read it could be an infection that is treatable with antibiotics or ovarian cysts, not sure of that treatment on such a tiny animal. I also read it can be signs of a tumor. Now from past experience none of our vets know much about hamsters so want to go tomorrow prepared with all the info I can gather so wondered if anyone had any other thoughts or ideas? We will phone both vet practices we use to see who is available with the most hamster knowledge but don't really expect anyone to know much. When I put Mouse in the bath I sprinkle some seed around which she runs around and gathers up but today she didn't so is obviously not feeling 100%, and when we were holding her she seemed very quiet. I've given her some baby food which she loves and will see if she has eaten any in the morning. Fingers crossed it's nothing too serious.

Oh no my friend had the exact, and I mean exact same thing you described happen to her rat just a month ago. She ended up having to take her to the vet, I totally forget what she said was wrong with her, but the vet said she needed antibiotics. So most liekly she will need a visit to the vet in order to get better. Her rat is now totally better though, so she has told me with the pills, so best go and get some!
P.S,I know rats and hamsters are different, but they are still rodents and this is the exact same thing that happened to her rat
edit- yes it ended up being a infection, but really it could of been a multitidue of things, heres the link when I was asking for her

Anyways hope you figure it all out soon, hopefully someone like souffle will be able to help you better!

You mean it is good to take her to the vets? I would show her to a doctor.

It could be a number of things really so it's important to make sure your vet checks all options. Are you sure it's not blood from her urine? if so then a urine infection can usually be treated quite easily with antibiotics.
Pyometra is much more serious and the best way to treat is to spay, which obviously might not be an option for her.
How old is she?

Blood from this area should always be checked out by a vet because it could be serious, or become more serious. It could be a pyometra or an endometrial/womb issue. Antibiotics will probably be prescribed if the vet feels it`s infection, but they should also feel her abdomen for any lumps and bumps or swellings.

What age is Mouse?

Taking Mouse to the vet was always my intention, as stated, I just wanted to go with as much knowledge as possible.
She bled over night and didn't eat anything, not even baby food, and was very quiet this morning when I got her out. The vet thinks it might be an infection and so has prescribed Baytril, though giving her such a tiny amount will be fun! She also gave Mouse an injection of antibiotics this morning, with a pain killer. The vet also stated that it could be something worse but didn't think it was as Mouse isn't that old, we think around a year now - she is a rescue so we don't know for sure. We have a week of Baytril and will see how she does and I guess if it doesn't start improving in the next couple of days then it's more than an infection. I syringed Mouse some baby food when we got back and she readily took it so is wanting to eat which is a good sign.
I'm sure the bleeding is not coming from her urine as there is blood on her bedding etc and not where she wees, i.e. it is coming out randomly as it were.
Fingers crossed she starts to feel better with the injection she has had today and I can tempt her to eat. Thank you for your good wishes.

I'm pretty sure urine infection doesn't mean blood will only appear in wee spots.
When my robo had cystitus it was on her wheel and bedding where she usually wouldn't pee.
Glad your getting it sorted, all the best x
