Default PLEASE! Help me!

My Hamster, cherry, she is a syrian, i think is dying from old age. Last night i noticed her falling around/stumbling and her ears were flat down.
Her mouth was then gaping open and she was breathing rapidly. her whiskers were also moving rapidly.
I stayed up with her for two hours until 12:30 at night and she still showed the same symptoms. So i put her back in her bed and she shoved head out and gaped her mouth open(she has enough room in her jar too breath anyway) She showed the same symptoms this morning. And she has been showing the same symptoms ever since i got home from school, my old hamster did this and she died withing half an hour of me finding her in that state, but my present hamster(cherry) has lasted for about 24 whole hours showing these symptoms, she is 3 in September. Please help!!!x

So sorry to hear this hun, My Poppet did this just before she left us but it was kinda quick.. I think her little heart is failing sweetie..cuddle her close and give her a kiss. If she is still struggling then maybe a visit to the vets may be needed for some help..

Unfortunately, I don't know how to help you apart of suggesting to get her to the VET, as she must be in distress, But I do not think she will pull through this. I'm very sorry. I hope someone else will be able to suggest something else, But i think it is her time to go, unfortunately.

I`m sorry to hear your girl is not well and she does sound as if she`s gasping. Has she slowed right down over the last few months or have these symptoms just suddenly appeared?

If she`s still the same in the morning and seemingly hanging on, I would take her in to your vet and let her go. If she can`t eat or drink and is just looking as though she`s dying but suffering, the best thing you can do for her is end it peacefully. I`ve had a few mice euthanased near their end, but many have died at home and I do prefer that, but you have to make a decision based on her condition hun and if she`s gasping and rolling around, she needs help to pass. x

I know how hard this is, as most pet owners do. Stay strong for your little girl. Have some lovely times with her, and give her a smile and tickle from me. At the end Chewy only really ate baby food, so if you can find any without onions, garlic or spices in (I'd say no citrus and stuff to), like a nice chicken dinner, that might help her eat and get a little liquid from it.

I hope she has a comfortable time. You sound like a fab hamster-mum, being there for her. x
