Bloody nose
Hello,
Noticed that my little WW Topaz seemed to have blood on her nose when she came out for her breakfast this morning. She's a lone hamster so she's not been fighting, and I am assuming that she's just knocked it or something or scratched it by accident (though I am frequently trimming her nails!), but I just wanted to check that this wasn't a sign of anything more sinister! She's totally fine in herself!

Re: Bloody nose
Hi there. Was the blood coming from inside her nose itself, or a scratch/cut on the surface? She might have scratched it herself but check your cage for anything she might have gotten caught on. Sharp corners or loose cage bars, ends of ladders and sharp plastic that`s been chewed?

Re: Bloody nose
It's hard to tell whether it's on the outside or within the nose as she's so small! I thought there might be something bad in the cage myself but 've checked over her mini duna and haven't found anything sharp, unless it was a bit of bark from her wooden log perhaps?! All she has in there other than that are a silent spinner, a couple of plastic bowls and cardboard boxes!

Re: Bloody nose
Keep an eye on her and if it needs cleaned, just gently wipe it with warm water on a dampened cotton ball. Or mix up some saline (one teaspoon of salt to one pint of boiled, cooled water). If she has any cuts this will help to clean it and it`s safe.
