Default Re: "When should I go to the vet?"

great info one of my syrians got into the others cage and attacked it last year, took a chunk out of it's back leg unfortunately it happened at a very late hour AND on a weekend so there was no chance of a vet in my area for at least 2 days...

luckily after bathing the leg in some antibacterial wash and keeping a very close eye on him it was almost fully healed by the time the 2 days had passed and he didn't need a vet

I'm glad some of you found this helpful. I'm not trying to imply that any of you wouldn't seek medical care in these situations. But, clearly, many people don't. I was actually driven to write this because browsing the healthcare thread was so much like a bad day at work. I'm not going to waste my time and energy on people who are seeking validation online instead of seeking appropriate care for their pets. I get enough of that $#%@ at work. However, I felt the need to share this at least once on the forum because a lot of people simply don't know any better.

And I'm really glad that worked out for you, Faerydae. You didn't do anything wrong, but I don't want others to use your good luck as an excuse to delay seeking care.

I think the healthcare section of the forum is great. I just wish it wasn't so cluttered with messages asking for advice in situations where all the forum members can reasonably say is "go to the vet now!" It's awesome that we can compare notes on caring for our little friends' in sickness and old age.
