Hi guys!
So here are the news from my baby's vet.
We went there last night and unfortunately I didn't receive many good news.
He said that what he has is a type of tick (is that a correct word? I found it on google translator) and that this tick could transmit them a disease called Rickettsia (that causes Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, wich drove me crazy when I googled it), witch is pretty serious.
He said that the treatment is hard and it will take some time to get them rid of the ticks.
He said that the dwarfs probably came with them from the store (I bought them less than a month ago) and they transmitted to the syrian, because their cages are near.
He said that he thinks one of them (Che) is very sick, that he already got the disease and is anemic.
So the treatment will be:
Allax (ivermectina in portuguese and ivermectin in english) - 5 drops on their back(like frontline in dogs) every week for at least 30 days.
Doxy (doxiciclina) to treat the disease, its a very tiny amount, one drop diluted in 0.5 ml of saline. Give a drop of the diluted every 12 hours for 30 days
Roevit: 1 drop every 24 hours. This one is a vitamin supplement because they're loosing weight and anemic, so this should help them be stronger. It contains:
Vitamin A, Vitamin B1, Vitamin B2, Vitamin B6, Vitamin B12, Vitamin C, Vitamin D3, Vitamin E, Niacin, Coline and Calcium pantothenate
I looked up for Johnsons spray as you all recommended but it doesn't exist here and I can't buy on ebay or pet stores because as it's a spray, they can't ship it on airplanes because of the pressurization.
While looking for something similar to Johnson spray or made by the same compounds, I found this two in birds store.
Frontline spray and one called Plumas Kleen.
Frontline you all probably know, but this one I think is less concentraded because it's made especificaly for birds, witch are small animals too. The plumas kleen they say it's a non toxic natural insecticide.
I guess everything should be used carefully because our hammys are tinny and sensitive.
So, have you guys ever used Frontline? I looked up and they said that the amount for hamsters would be 1 or 2 drops in their back.
I probably won't buy this because I'm afraid, as my dog's vet always said that frontline was dangerous and should be used carefully, with my rottweiler and german shepperd, imagine with my babys hamsters? But even considering that, I would like your opinion.
I try to write down all the information I could possibly give to help other ham owners, because I've found nothing about it easily, so I'm writing in my brazilian blog too.
My boyfriend went to a city near and he will buy the medicine there because I can't find it here near me, and I live in brazil's biggest town and I have no car, so in his small town he can find it easily.
Apart from using all this medicine, I should clean their cages as many times as possible and sanitize it with a very strong medicine called butox. So I'll be alternating them with their cages and plastic containers, so that I can help eliminating the bugs and the cage that is cleaned with butox must rest in a ventilated place for 1 or 2 days to evaporate all the medicine.
I guess their going to be really stressed to be changing their home all the time but it's for their good, because If I don't they will die for sure, the vet told me.
So I'd ask you guys to send us good vibes so my babies get fixed fast and become lively and happy again soon.
I'll keep you guys informed about the treatment, so that this post can be read by other people with the same problem and so that they can know what to expect.
Thank you for your help and attention, we're eternally grateful.
