Robo hamster
Ok so i'm worried about my little Robo hamster Joey. He seemed to have this problem a while ago, and it cleared up, but now seems to be back with worse.
A few weeks ago i noticed he was scratching at his sides neck [underneath/side sort of place] he was scratching until it bled leaving me to find him with dried blood all down the side of him :S I kept and eye on him for a few days but he seemed to ave stopped, he wound healed up and he was fine.
Well i went out last weekend and when i came home and checked in on him he had no hair on the back of his neck/ down his back in a big patch. He was scratching at it and it was bleeding. I kept and eye on it and it healed but i have noticed underneath there is a pink lump sort of thing [i cant feel it he is way to speedy for that] He also has no hair on his sides near his back legs and a little missing/thinning from his tummy. The skin underneath today looks purple and i'm a bit worried as we don't have a vets near us that deals with hamsters.
He is eating/drinking fine. He is quite active and when i'm near his cage he seems to pace round the edges, not wanting to come out more wanting to keep me out. I'm unsure of his age, i know hes over a year - a year and a half he was a rescue and they were also unsure of his age only knowing he was over a year, and i have had him for 6 months.
Any one have any ideas of what it could be? and if there is anything i can do to help him? to be honest i just don't want him to be suffering :/

Re: Robo hamster
Poor little thing
Aww... is there *any* vet which even has a possibility of being able to deal with hams? none of my local ones specialise in them or anything but they do treat them :S
a picture would be useful
tbh the only thing which springs to my mind is mites... although i'm not sure that would make his skin purple?
Anyway i hope he's ok...xx

Re: Robo hamster
I would guess mites too, his skin may be purple because of the irritation, and the constant over scratching. That said, if you can feel a lump I would really try to get him checked out as soon as possible. Could be scar tissue, but better safe than sorry. How far is your nearest vet that can give him a good check over?

Re: Robo hamster
Just to update as i have not been on here in forever :/
We found a vet and got him there as soon as possible, he was being trested for mites, but sadly in the last few days of his treatment he decided he would make his journey to the bridge. He was a old hamster and im guessing it was just all too much for my poor little one.
