Default please help thimble is twitching!

Hello,

I dont know what to do, or if im being a little silly and worrying over nothing I woke up this morning to find Thimble making these bizarre noises, like umm a baby bird screetching but quietly if you can understand me, he's very wobbly on his feet but running around the cage and is...i cant describe it, he twitching but the way you would see a guinea pig popcorn....kicking his feet in the air, and i cant describe it jumping and flipping.

He's also taken all his bedding out of his house and ive put fresh back in but he wont go in his house. So i put his second wooden hidey in, but hes still mooching around and popcorning!

All he's had to eat is his museli, hes drinking okay, and i cleaned him out on thursday night. He was normal last night, using his wheel, inquisative as ever. Ive took him out this morning his eyes are clear, no wet patches, hair is glossy, he looks healthy, Thimble is kept in a zoozone 1, and the only thing he can climb is his suspension bridge and his wooden tower which isnt far from the ground....So im a wee confused.

Should i phone the vets? He usually goes to bed at 9.30am, so im staying home today with him to keep an eye on him. Worried!

There are 2 things that may be the cause of this behavior:
1.pneumonia
2.apoplexia?
What irritates me is the "Jumping and flipping"?How old is he (very jung=flea-age)? What species is he? Could it be Backflipping, how long does he lives with you?
Yup, i would phone the vet.
I keep my fingers crossed, hope it's nothing bad!

He's only young, around a month old and is a syrain...he's kept in a warm room (my bedroom) he's lived with me for three weeks now and ive had no problems with him until now. He's very friendly and tame too. Phoning the vets as we speak

Humm...then he may be in flea-age, couldn't that be? I don't know how you call that in uk...it describes the behavior of very young hamsters which jumps around in the whole cage. But that he's wobbly on his feet and the noise is something different.
Don't worry, I'm sure everything will be ok *hug*

I hope the vet can see him soon. He sounds to have hurt himself to me and is screeching in pain. It could be a broken foot / leg / toe and he is frightened by the pain. The vet should be able to help.
Another thing that springs to mind is a stroke that can happen even in youngsters.
Keep us updated on whatthe vet says.

Just got back from the vets, we're going to be keeping an eye on him the next few weeks and months, the vet believes he has very low sugar levels called hypogglleycemia? (lol cant spell it!) and this causes him to have stroke like effects but she's only ever seen this in elderly and very old hamsters, so Thimble has had a full check over his eye sights okay he has difficulty seeing in his left eye though and the vet believes this is due to bad breeding which goes in hand with his low suger levels.

So she's advised me to give him a tiny amount of sugar or a sugary treat every day and see if that helps and improves his balance and the fits he has, we're going back on friday for another checkover, the vets also given me a out of hours vet number just in case.

He was very feisty at the vets though he hissed at the vet (naughty boy!) he's back home now and has gone to bed, bless.

Just wanted to say thank you on behalf of thimble, to everyones wonderful support and advice.

Glad you got him seen at the vets, sounds like he'll enjoy being spoiled with extra sugar
Best wishes to him, I hope he improves soon x
